Hold Your Temper, Tiger!

Carol Roth, illus. by Rashin. NorthSouth, $17.95 (32p) ISBN 978-0-7358-4274-8

MORE BY AND ABOUT THIS AUTHOR
“Little Tiger had a temper,” writes Roth (Five Little Ducklings Go to School), and Rashin (There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly) pictures his temper as a sort of spiky red ghost that stomps, cries, and yells along with the temperamental young tiger. After Little Tiger’s refusal to clean up his toys leads to a threat from Mama (“You had better hold onto your temper, Tiger… or else!”), he rethinks his attitude, since “or else” could mean any number of unwelcome punishments. Painted in forceful shades of red, blue, yellow, and green, Rashin’s artwork makes a big impact; readers will easily recognize parts of themselves in this cranky, golden-furred hero. Little Tiger’s solution (stuffing his temper under his baseball cap) is mostly played for laughs, but the idea of decentering angry emotions could still prove useful for the tantrum prone. Ages 4–8. Five Little Ducklings Go To School

by Carol Roth, illustrated by Sean Julian

Who doesn’t love the 5 little duckings song, now you can enjoy those cute little ducklings in this perfect story for your little one(s). I’m a big fan of Carol Roth her picture books are such great little books with wonderful stories and illustrations to match. The Five Little Ducklings Go To School is out and just in time. It’s that time already either your little one(s) are in school or getting ready to start depending on where you live. This adorable picture book is great for home or classroom/library use. The story is sweet and endearing, telling the little ducklings it’s OK to miss someone while your apart. It captures the all the nervousness of the first day for kids. It also shows kids how even though they will miss home they will have so much fun too. This is one of the best first day of school books I’ve read in a long time. I enjoyed this one very much and would add it to my classroom library for sure.

Summary: It’s time for the five little ducklings to go to school.
Four of the little ducklings shout, “YIPPEE! HOORAY! OH BOY! THAT’S COOL!” The fifth little duckling sobs, “BOO-HOO! I won’t go to school! I’m going to miss you!”
But when Mama reminds them, “Even though we’ll be apart, we’ll still be in each others heart,” the little ducklings go forth and soon discover “School is great!”
